Shortened working days: According to the Estonian Employment Contracts Act, the working day is 3 hours shorter before public holidays that do not fall on a weekend. In 2026, there will be four such shortened working days:

  • February (Mon) – the day before Independence Day
  • June (Mon) – the day before Victory Day
  • December (Wed) – the day before Christmas Eve
  • December (N) – the day before New Year's Day

Reductions in working hours

  • In February: 152 h – 3 h = 149 h
  • In June: 160 h – 3 h = 157 h
  • In December: 168 h – 6 h = 162 h

There are no shortened days in March, April, May, etc., so full hours.

Public holidays on weekends: Three holidays that fall on Sunday/Saturday (Easter, Pentecost, Boxing Day) do not affect the number of working days or working hours.
